| Tammy and Deb were laughing and giggling as they lay in the snow making snow angels. Meanwhile Mike and Jim were putting the finishing touches on the snowman they had spent the morning building. As they stood back to admire their work, Mike bent down and picked up a hand-sized chunk of snow. As they stood there congratulating each other on their snowman, Jim noticed Mike tossing the chunk of snow up and down in his hand and then the gleam in his eye. “Hey there, you’d better not...” THUNK! Mike nailed Jim square in the chest. “Ok then, this means WAR!” Jim laughed as he reached down to make his own snowball while watching Mike slipping and scrambling to get behind the protection of the snowman. | Tammy shuffles and deals out six cards to each player, and places the remainder facedown in the middle of the table. Tammy grabs a handy pen and fills in everyone’s name on the score sheet since she is scorekeeper for this game. Everyone looks at their cards and takes turn rolling the blue die to see who goes first. Deb rolls a 2, Tammy a 3, and Jim and Mike tie with 5s. Jim and Mike roll again. Jim rolls a 1 and Mike rolls another 5. Mike goes first. He decides to attack Jim with a SNOWBALL. Jim has no defensive cards, so he discards one of his offensive cards and draws – hoping to get a defensive card – while Mike takes his free shot. Mike rolls a 6, which is definitely in the range of 1-6, and so Tammy marks the one and two in Jim’s row on the score sheet. Mike draws to replace the card he played. | |
| Hearing the commotion, Deb and Tammy looked up from their angel-making to see Jim hit Mike’s backside squarely with a snowball before he could duck behind the snowman. | Jim (who is sitting to Mike’s left) then takes his turn (since play rotates clockwise). Jim decides to attack Mike with LUCKY SHOT. Mike plays a DODGE/DUCK in response. Jim rolls a 6, which is modified to a 5 (due to the DODGE/DUCK), which is still within the range of 2-6 so Tammy marks 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 on Mike’s row on the score sheet. Both Mike and Jim draw from the pile to replace the cards they used. | |
| Tammy’s laughing was suddenly cut short as she saw the snowball that Deb had lobbed coming down at her. Trying to roll out of the way in time, Tammy almost made it but the snowball still hit her leg and some of it trickles into her boot. | Now it’s Deb’s turn. She chooses to attack Tammy with a LOB SHOT. Tammy plays a DODGE/DUCK in response. Deb rolls a 4, which is modified to a 3, and barely manages to hit since her roll is just enough to still be in the range of 3-6. Tammy marks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 on her own row on the score sheet. Both Deb and Tammy draw to replace the cards they’ve used. | |
| Seeing Deb sprinting for the cover of some bushes, Tammy looks around for an easier target and notices that Jim’s back is to her. She quickly grabs some snow and packs it as she trots towards him. She gets close enough for a can’t-miss shot and throws! Unfortunately, her mitten sticks to her snowball and flies off her hand with it, throwing off her aim just enough for the snowball to sail harmlessly over Jim’s shoulder and land in the snow. Those darn mittens! Seeing Tammy’s near miss and realizing he is between two opponents, Jim pivots and backs up so he can keep an eye on both of them. However, that puts him directly in Mike’s line of fire! | Now it’s Tammy’s turn. Tammy decides to attack Jim with SNEAK ATTACK. Jim chooses to play the defensive card that he just drew, STUCK TO THEIR GLOVE. Tammy rolls a 2, which is modified to a 0 from Jim’s defensive card, and she misses. Tammy has nothing to record on the score sheet, and she draws a card to replace the one she used. Jim however, distracted by making Tammy miss and his concern if Mike is going to attack him again – forgets to draw to replace the card that he used. | |
| Mike, seeing Jim distracted by Tammy’s snowball, grabs a big half-finished piece of another snowman, stands up with it over his head, and heaves it at Jim. | Mike thinks for a moment – giving Jim time to remember to draw but he doesn’t – and decides to attack Jim with BOULDER. | |
